Guillermo's Testimony
I was raised in a Christian home where since I was little my parents taught
me the Word of God and took me to Church. I accepted Christ as my Savior in 1976
at the age of ten, at Sunday School. After that, I didn't have any follow up,
only what I heard at Church. During my teen age years I lived through ups and
downs, sometimes fine with the Lord, sometimes bad, but as years went by the bad
times were longer that the good ones, even though I was living an apparently
good life. One time, in a Camp from my Church in 1985, God made me see my
situation as a mediocre Christian, and I repented and decided to reconcile
myself with the Lord. I started to get involved in the youth group to the point
that in 1986 I was elected the leader of the group, even though I realized that
I needed more spiritual growth and knowledge of the Word of God. It was in that
year that I met Eddy and Silvia Vidaechea, who were just arriving from Argentina
ministry in Costa Rica. My Church asked for the Bible
Club program and since I was the Leader of the Youth Group, I went on as Bible
Club Leader. There, Eddy started to work personally in me as Silvia did the same
with Mayra, who is my wife today. They taught us to have a passion for souls,
love to the Word of God, to live with convictions and to put God in the first
place in our lives. In that time I was in the middle of my college degree as
Industrial Engineer, and in the meantime I leaded one, then two and finally four
Programs in my Church. As I spent time with Eddy, in my heart came
the desire to dedicate my life to serve the Lord. At the camp fire in the first
Word of Life Camp in 1988 I had already dedicated my life to the Lord to do
whatever He wanted with me, so I was pretty sure that it was Him who was placing
that desire in my heart. It was then that, after graduating, and getting married
Bible Institute in Argentina. We left on March 17th. and after three wonderful
years among the Word of God and men of God, we came back to Costa Rica as Word
of Life missionaries in December 1992, with a new member of our family, our
daughter Andrea. Since 1994 we have served full time, and He has continued the
work that He started in us long time ago. Through the personal ministry of Eddy
and Silvia, God continues to challenge us to a better life, closer to God and
His Word, and trying to reproduce in others what they had done in our lives. We
have been involved in Musicals, Bible Clubs, Open Air Evangelism, Evangelistic
tours in and out of the country, Evangelism in Schools, Radio, Television, the
Elaboration of Printed materials, local Church ministry, and more. Now, we have
the new challenge of our second daughter, Valery, who was born in August 1999.
We are also very excited about the future for all that God is preparing for us.
Thank God for Word of Life, for the life of its founder Jack Wyrtzen, and for
bringing Eddy and Silvia to our country in a key moment in my life and the life
of my wife.
Mayra's Testimony
I was raised in a Christian home, being the youngest of 6 children. Together, we
attended Sunday School each week, but without my parents, who because of
personal problems that we did not know about, they didn't go. I remember in my
childhood my Sunday School teacher talking to me about the Good News of
salvation, and at the age of 8 I accepted Jesus Christ as my savior. There was
always a great desire in my heart to learn more about God and to serve Him as
missionary; but I was alone in that dream, without orientation from my family,
nor from the people at Church. For them I was only a child. So, when I got to High School, in my teen age years I started little by little
to walk away from the Lord, until I was openly in rebellion against Him and my
parents. Again I found myself alone, without any orientation or spiritual
counsel. It was then at the age of 18 in 1985, that the mercy and grace of God reached
out to me. God used circumstances and people to speak to my heart until I was
broken deeply by Him, and I could reconcile myself with my Heavenly Father and
my life turned around 180 degrees from night to day. The desire to live for
Christ came out again as well as a passion to serve Him and dedicate my life to
Him. Then, even though I attended Church regularly and participated in the
weekdays services I still was living without a clear goal, without convictions
or someone who could work in my heart in a personal way with the Word of God. It
wasn't that I didn't want advice, I was anxious to, but there was no one to take
the challenge and the commitment to guide my life. In 1986 , knowing God the desire in my heart, the Word of Life ministry came to
Costa Rica, with the Director Eddy Vidaechea, his wife Silvia and their son
Cristian. I had no idea about this ministry, until my Church asked him to start
a Bible Club Program there. I started to get involve in the Club and Silvia took
the challenge to guide my life with a lot of patience and love, penetrating with
the Word of God deep through a discipleship, filling the needs I had of someone
to work in my life. Through the programs of the Ministry, Eddy's teaching of the Word of God and
Silvia's personal work in me, I understood that to serve the Lord meant to love
the Word, have passion for the lost, witness and make disciples. It was in 1988,
at the first Word of Life Summer Camp, in a Campfire service for the staff the
day before the campers came, that I dedicated my life to the Lord and I said to
Him: "Here I am, take my life and do with it what you want, wherever you
want me to go I will go, I want to serve you the rest of my life". I have
no doubt in my mind that the Lord heard that prayer and guided my way to the
center of His will. He gave me a husband, Guillermo, who like me was influenced
by the Word of Life Ministry in a personal way by the Director. It was in 1990
after 8 months of getting married, that we went to prepare ourselves to serve
the Lord in a more effective way at the Word of Life Bible Institute in
Argentina. God called us to serve Him in our country while we were there, as
Word of Life missionaries along with our daughter Andrea. Today I look back and
there are so many things that God has made in my life that I cannot number them
since the day I began to walk in His will for me; in my heart there is a mixture
of gratitude, worship and praise to the Lord for giving me the opportunity to
come back to Him, in a crucial moment in my life when I was heading for
disaster. I will never get tired of giving thanks to the Lord for the useful
instruments that He used to guide my life since then until today: Eddy, my
ministry director and Silvia his wife, who are also my friends and spiritual
parents. Today, after all these years Word of Life Costa Rica is still the same,
winning souls, teaching the Word of God and discipling people. The story of my
life is repeated in each young person that the Lord lets us meet, only now the
difference is that I have the privilege of investing my life in them, as one day
this Ministry did in me, for the Glory of God.
